Water Dripping From Ceiling: What to Do Right Now
Water dripping from a ceiling is an emergency, even when it is just a few drops. Drywall and insulation hold far more water than you see, and ceilings can collapse without warning.
Step 1: Contain the water
Put a bucket under the drip. If the ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole with a screwdriver at the lowest point to drain it in a controlled way.
Step 2: Shut off the water
If the drip is under a bathroom, stop using that bathroom. If it is constant, close the main water valve. If it only happens when it rains, it is a roof issue, not plumbing.
Step 3: Call an emergency plumber
Common plumbing causes are a leaking shower pan or valve, a toilet wax ring, a failed supply line, or a pinhole in a copper pipe. Our leak detection equipment pinpoints the source so water leak repair opens only a small section of ceiling. Shower repair and pipe leak repair are usually completed the same day.
